750 Turbo DFI Problems

Post by GlenTurbo »

What should I look out for with the DFI on the 1984 and 1985 turbo models?

What problems do they have (what goes wrong)?

Is it hard to get new/used parts?

Hard to rebuild?

Any problems with the DFI computer box?

Tips on DFI care or a DFI FAQ?

What's the difference between a 1983 GPz1100 DFI and 1984 750Turbo DFI?

I've heard a lot of people have major problems with the GPz1100 DFI and convert to carbs. Does the 750Turbo have the same problems?

The 1100 and turbo ECUs are similar but not interchangeable. The 1100 fires it's injectors every 360 degrees, the turbo is 720. The main reason ECUs on both bikes fail is the rubber mounting blocks crack and break allowing the ECU to rattle around and shake itself to death. Look after the mounts and the ECU will be fine.

The rest of the system is standard fuel injection stuff, easily rebuildable, replaceable and upgradeable.

I want to put DFI on my 82' GPZ 750--after riding the 750 turbo, carbs don't make much sense--but that will be at another time--after I get my T-25 turbo project bike up and running.

Obviously we're all riding 750 turbos & some of us have several examples. The DFI works great & is very reliable. Like Fluff said, most guys just don't comprehend it & give up.
Ride 'em while you still can
