Valve and Cam Timing EUREKA!!!

Post by 750turboguy »

I have been playing with the cams all day.

Rotate to TDC as indicated by the T mark next to the F mark

Install the intake cam with IN (marked on the sprocket) even along the top of the head.

Install the exhaust cam with Z6EX (marked on the sprocket) even along the top of the head.

Rotate the engine and they never line back up. I took into account the chain slack but something
is not lining up. Drivin me crazy.....

Exhaust cam first, then inlet, don't get too wound up over exactly lining marks to cylinder head it's the pin count that's important

What is pissing me off here is the Z6EX on the exhaust cam is fucking UPSIDE DOWN and in the manual its RIGHT SIDE UP. That is fucking stupid!

AND...the lines for the marks don't really line up straight with the top edge of the head. THAT is fucking stupid as well.

Kawasaki should have just put in a photo of the completed assembly all lined up instead of a stupid draftsman's drawing from some tilted drafting table with a number 2 pencil. Assholes!

So here is what I am to understand....

Install the exhaust cam with the lobe for cyl 1 facing rear. The Z6EX mark (upside down) will be at the front of the engine.

Install the intake cam with the lobe for cyl 1 facing forward or toward the lobe on the exhaust cam. The IN mark will at the rear
of the engine.

This makes cyl 4 intake face rear and exhaust cyl 4 face forward (lobes)

Hook up the exhaust cam onto the sprocket in the position show....The number 1 pin will be the start of a new link.....now count 45
and your cam line for IN should be between 45 and 46 both on the same link.

Now imma gonna go out and actually do this and if it works, take a picture and post it. so there will be no more questions.

HA HAAAA...I got it........ FInally!
I spent two days on this and the reason?.....watch the video on Youtube and it will explain why I was having so much trouble.
After fixing the problem it took 30 minutes to install the cams and get them set right.......
