Digital Micrometer

Post by JezZedexE1 »

Has anybody ever had an issue with a digital micrometer or any other digital measuring item, vernier, etc.

I got one recently and when I was taking some measurements, the reading went all over the place. I had to go back to 25mm and reset it a number of times. On one of the occasions I was taking a reading, I saw a tiny spark on the face of the anvil cross over to the crank journal.

That got me thinking it may be the reason for the readings to go out of calibration.

Any ideas? :popcorn

I have a Mitutoyo vernier that doesnt like the to be moved very quickly or it shits itself & resets back to zero, my Aldi workzone special has no such issues ;)

I had a Mitutoyo 6", it gave me many years of sterling service. It finally packed up after 25 years, can't complain and it was free from work when they closed the factory. I've been looking for a quality replacement but they're so damned expensive and the second hand tool stalls on markets seem few and far between these days.

A variation on the theme, but what accuracy are people using with bore gauges for checking cylinders etc. I have metric down to 0.1mm. Is this accurate enough for when I finally get into the motor?

You will need one hundredths at least. 0.01mm, even thousandths 66.005mm - 66.017
