Afternoon all

Post by Mark RD250LC »

Hi All,

I have just picked up a 750 Turbo E1, the bikes been sitting for about 20 years and was covered in ACF 50 and left in a heated garage.

The first issue i found was the oil leak coming from where the H pipe joins the silencers but that will be a question in another section along with "what oil, what tyres etc" :popcorn

I've never owned a Kawasaki and know very little about them ( i know very little generally) , I've had mainly Yamahas R1s/Fazers and now have a DT175MX i commute on, a RD250LC and an RS100.

i will be asking loads of questions and will try and post up some pics but I'm not great with computers.

Thanks
Mark

Welcome!

The oil leak from the H pipe is a common issue. It's engine oil that leaks past the turbo bearing, in particular when bike hasn't been ridden for a while.

The bike will smoke heavily when run. The reason the oil leaks past the bearing is because the turbo is positioned low in relation to the engine.

There's a mod that addresses this, a check valve oil line. Look it up on the forum, Charlie makes the kit mod.

When you fit it you should clean up the turbo air intakes through to the plenum, and there's a drain bolt on the underside of the plenum itself, where you'll find oil has also accumulated. Once done check and top up the engine oil.

The oil in the exhaust will burn off but make sure no-one is behind you as the resulting blue smoke can fog the road up. Alternatively you could remove the silencers and just drain the oil off.

Welcome Mark
Kawadoodle is right on with the issue. One extra step from the 750 sitting so long when you remove the boost pipes and clean them and the plenum also use a small rag soaked in mineral spirits wring it out and use a hanger attached to end and get the oil out of the compressor cover thru the opening where the boost pipe attached. The compressor cover will be full of oil also to the compressor wheel. If you don't clean it it will blow that oil into the plenum. Turbine side wiil burn off but take a good 20 minutes of riding. Not just idling. Heat is your friend!

Good luck!

Do have the oil check valve lines to eliminate this issue.

I would strongly advise you go to Charlie, his email is evergreenturbo1@gmail.com. He sells the oil pipe with the check valve already installed.
Charlie's mod is tried and tested, he's uses a good quality valve and it's set to crack at the right pressure, as the last thing you want is to starve the turbo unit of oil.
About the billet, have a chat with Charlie. You'll then realise he's the guru on the turbo, he'll give you the best advice.

Hi Mark
Got your email. Likely the housing is cast aluminum. Not seen a billet compressor cover before. You can send some pictures of the turbo I will be able to ID it just seeing what it looks like.
Hopefully it was rebuilt correctly. Seen almost 200 rebuilds not one had oversize bearings ie line boring done or seals machined etc. We do all this and much more here. Go to the turbocharger section see some builds.
