750 Turbo LFD Style

Post by longfiredragon »

Well I am starting a new thread here because the bike has gone through some changes and because of the PB thing. So I only have a few photos at this time. It is really time consuming on my piece of crap computer. Anyway I finally got around to completing the rear wheel swap. I had set everything aside for a while because I was just unsure of what direction I was going to go with it. Sometimes I just have to wait until the right thing hits me. I also got a new plate frame.

I am now pretty happy with the results, still need a few tweaks, but pretty happy. I will post more and more pictures as soon as I can, I have done some other things just out of time right now.

Thanks guys. George, no Twisties yet. I don't have a usable front end yet. Forks are being rebuilt. May have them in a week or two. Powder coated lower tube's, bran new inner tubes, progressive springs and new rotors and EBC double H sintered pads. So it will be a while still before she is ridable. Oh, and it is a 160x60x17 for now, I can do the 170 but just liked the power RS tire, plus more selection in a 160.

Hello all. Time for a little update. I never went into too much detail because I was never really finished with the back end. So here is a better overview.

ZR7 rear shock.
Polished swing arm, and all new bearings.
Changed the exhaust tip to a double wall stainless shorty.
Put my rear brake link on, it seems to hold fine, locked up the rear power RS many times, did fine.
530 chain conversion, with rebel gears 52 tooth anodized red sprocket.
Ninja ZX6R 5 inch rear wheel, all new sealed bearings.
New rear master cylinder, rebuilt twin piston rear caliper (ZZR600) new rear disk and pads.
New coremoto braded line, translucent red, stainless lightened banjo bolts.
TRW/Lucas chain guard.
Mostly all new stainless hardware.
New mirrors, and new barrel nuts, and stainless hardware on the windscreen. All fit perfectly. Some of this was already done, but like I said little more detail. Still working on attaching pictures. Phone is a little touchy.

Thanks Doug

Yes the Power RS has seen better days  My daughters wedding is in 2 weeks, finally. Love her very much and all but this wedding thing has been prolonged because of this COVID thing and she and most everybody is just ready to do this thing.

Then I can focus more on some stuff around the house, my truck, and yes a new back tire and hopefully some progress on the front end swap :victory

I used a 18T & 52 rear on mine & it's a really good fit for the bike. Good gearing! The rear end on yours looks really good now. You might even be able to squeeze a 180/55 in there but wouldn't come out much different than a 170-60 width wise on that sexy 5" rim. Are you putting a 120-60 or 120-70 on the front?

Thanks Fabio

I am using the Power RS because it is a great tire, but also the current front tire is also a Michelin so I was trying to keep them somewhat matched even though the front is a pilot not an RS cause you can't get the RS in a 18".
The rear tire is a 160x60x17 and the RS doesn't come in the 170x60 that I have seen. So the next size up for the RS is the 180x55, I am curious to know if it will fit. I don't think it will hit my brake connecting rod, cause it's custom, so I think the next thing in the way would be the chain? I would have to ask on here and do some research I guess to find out if the 180x55 will fit. Does it even fit on a 5" wheel? I don't know. I will say this, prior to the 160x60 being wore out it never faltered in any way, never spun, or felt like it wasn't handling the power and torque the turbo puts out. I love fat rubber out back but I won't have a problem if I have to use the 160x60 again.

As far as the front tire, I hadn't really thought about it yet cause I just haven't got that far. The most thought I have put into it is that I was thinking the taller of the 2 sizes because going to the 17" wheels does lower the bike some. I think if you go with the taller of the 2 tires it will add a little less than 1/2 inch in ride height. This I did look into at one time but now can't remember.

I am a 17x52 and yes it is fantastic, bike responds and pulls good in any gear at any speed, even low speeds in high gear. There is very few bikes made that would beat us in a roll on. I completely destroyed my son-in laws CBR600RR in every gear. We were riding one day talking on the Bluetooth and decided to do a top gear 35 mile per roll on and the turbo immediately pulled away and it was over before I even came under boost. Once under boost I hit 130 and looked in my mirrors and he was literally around 3/4 of a mile behind me. In his defense the 600's don't make good power until they get way up in the RPM's but still no contest.

If you did try a 180 the tyre manufacturers all have charts of what width their tyre will be on each permissable rim size. 180 can go on a 5" rim but the design, optimum size is 5.5. You also have to allow for growth in service. Tyres when first fitted will be slightly smaller & grow ever so slightly after being on the bike for a short time.
You should try to know everything about something & something about everything.

Hello all. Quick update. I have always wanted a Corbin style seat, but something always seemed to get in the way. My whole bike has, and is still on a extreme shoestring budget. Anyway looking at custom seats through the years this is what I wanted. Something your butt won't slip off of, was reasonably comfortable and had the red accents. 12 1/2 years later thanks to the graciousness of another forum member I have one. I like it a lot. Thanks detrailers. Now I have to figure out a way to load pictures that are not all pixelated and look like shit.
