Fork rebuild
I am thinking of doing something controversial and returning my bike to fairly standard condition and as such has anyone here had a set of standard forks rebuilt and properly set up.
I would appreciate any feedback and results achieved.

Re: Fork rebuild
I was thinking if a rebuild, revalving , new springs etc and properly set up.
Then I thought to try and find some upgrade calipers that will fit with standard wheel, I know space is tight against the wheel but it must be possible .
Kevin
This also means I have a fully converted zx6 rear wheel conversion ( by jeff h) with offset sprocket plus a complete fitted front end for sale if I finally decide that's what I am doing. Decisions decisions,

Re: Fork rebuild
about the stock fork : when using progressive springs and a thicker oil, do you still need to use pneumatic preload in the fork ?

I'm converting standard front forks and wheel to accept six pot calipers off a ZX9 with floating disc's haven't finished yet but it can be done? will change the back brake as well later.
Alexj
When I changed to progressive springs and heavy oil I set the air gap to 140 works. Didn't pump the leg up with air. And I took the anti-dive off as well.

Re: Fork rebuild
Following this thread as I have noticed some seepage out of my forks at the rubber boot. Thinking I need new seals ?

Re: Fork rebuild
I have the aftermarket floating rotors, Ninja master cylinder, and stainless lines on an otherwise stock front end and it stops very very well.

Where did the floating rotors come from.

Re: Fork rebuild
Thanks youngblood.
so 140mm oil level from top of the fork tube, and no air preload in the stock fork, that's your setup. Need to try that on mine.
I am reluctant to remove the anti dive units, I like the factory look

EBC makes them. Theyre on eBay usually and fit a few different kaws.
The rivets (floating rollers or whatever they're called) come blue as standard. Old Barry use to have anodized red for our bikes.

Re: Fork rebuild
I have blocked off the fluid feed to the anti dive with a disc of ally in the top of the pipe. Looks factory but isn't.AlexJ wrote:Thanks youngblood.

The thing about the fork is you can tune the bounce by adjusting the air gap at the top to suit what you like, softer or harder, and adjust the oil viscosity to adjust the damping to suit that.
Just need to stop my oil leak so I can start tuning mine.....

If you want to keep the anti dive look, just replace the brake lines direct from the splitter to the calipers. Bypass the short pipe as the anti dive units contain a one way valve and won't leak.
I did this and it works fine. I then blocked the bleed nipple hole with a blind grommet.
