Power Commander tuning at a Dyno

Post by KWAK 750 TURBO »

Has anyone used Lorcans fuel map for the 810cc, rc310's, intercooled, big valves & cams successfully? ie: someone with a very similar setup? i ask because i was wondering what their throttle position at atmospheric pressure was coming out at. I'm getting anywhere from 6% to 14%. I want to get it as close as i can, since i only have a narrowband air/fuel monitor to check the fuelling with before i get the bike to the Dyno. I understand the map is good enough to get me to a dyno, but i want to be sure the starting point (0% throttle when you suck on the boost sensor tube) is as good as i can get it. Or does it not really matter?

Ideally i really could do with a map to run the newly rebuilt engine in with first before i cane the nads' off it at the dyno....

My bike is 810cc, intercooled, T25 Turbo, 315cc bosch injectors, dyna coils, so its quite close.

While i'm on has anybody used a dyno centre near to where i live (Warrington, Cheshire) that they can recommend for setting up my power commander?

Also just generally; how much might i expect to pay for the dyno time i might need?

Cheers,

Andy ;)

I'll post a reply, if I'm wrong, someone will let me know . The 0% throttle position isn't as critical as the 100%. If your using the map that is posted you should be alright,(no guarantees though) . I'm using that map, It is a little rich at Idle, goes a little lean(prior to boost)not too bad, and rich-ens up under boost.I know it needs to be tuned on a dyno.
I've tried growing up, it just doesn't work for me, so I'll go on enjoying my childhood.

Hi, Many thanks for that, that puts mind at rest so hopefully i can get it to a dyno in one piece!

Anyone got any idea how much dyno time the bike might need (assuming the bike is functioning properly, fuel pressure, ignition etc...) or even possible dyno time costs?.....

I paid £200 for my dyno time, but I spent most of a day buggering about with other issues, the actual mapping only took a couple of hours (which included plenty of cooling down time).

I don't know anyone in your area but John Warrington Motorcycles in North Yorkshire is very good.

Don't worry about the 0% figure being the same as mine. Your dyno operator will be able to make it idle and drive properly at low rpm. It only needs basic compensation for the larger injectors in that range.

Cheers Lorcan, for a minute there when i read your post i though the dyno was actually in Warrington, i thought my luck was in! Spooky... Well thats 3 recommmendations i have now for Dyno's that understand Turbo's. I have also had recommended; shaun @ 'Big CC' in Reading and Steve @ 'Motrac' in Elmsmere Port (Cheshire) both seem to understand fuelling Turbos and are open to ideas too.

Yep, Sean at Big CC knows his turbos. I'll find out about Motrac ;)

Re: Power Commander tuning at a Dyno - Dyno Centre Suggestions

Post by KWAK 750 TURBO »

Hi Everyone,

I've spoken to Steve @ Motrac and he doesn't want to put anything on his Dyno much older than about 10 years old, especially an 84 750 Turbo :(

So has anybody got any additional suggestions for Dyno's they've successfully used for powercommander tuning their 750 Turbo's anywhere in the country?

I want this setting up spot on....

Ta,

Andy.

SPR in Ruddington, Notts had no problem with putting mine on.
Bit far though. If you ride it down and then blow it up on the dyno at least you can leave it in my garage until someone picks it up as I am literally around the corner. :D
There's more besides, joyrides and a little house in the countryside.
Get the balance right.

Niiiiiiice....Heh Heh heh. Hopefully I could get it there in one piece, i suppose ideally i'd need a trailer or van to get it there. I checked the distance, it's around 95 miles, straight down the M6. I take it they understand fueling Turbos and the unusual way our PC's work?

I also did a 'Proper' rather than half arsed search on this site and found 'DSD' in Chigwell, London come well recommended too, bit far (201miles) but worth knowing.

Do they blow up on dyno's? Is it a rarity or a regular occurrence?

I took mine there from Cornwall, over 350 miles.

If you try hard enough you can blow it uop on a dyno. But it should be a bit of a rare ocurance as all the moniters should rtell you something is wrong. However if you run 26 psi boost with STD pistons that should do it. :blowup

A dyno run only lasts a few seconds. You can kill them on a dyno, but you have to be fairly persistent.

Go to Woodbridge and run it flat out for over a mile if you want to blow it up properly
