performance fuel filter

Post by Würstchens-Turbo 810 »

Hello friends,
I would like to install a performance fuel filter with a stainless steel mesh.
Does anyone know what the micron rating of the original paper filter is?

I have a 190 l/h, 5 bar Walbro pump.

Has anyone already installed an affordable one and can recommend one?

This the one I use:
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-230118-b

Cleanable stainless filter disk up to 100 microns. They also have one with replaceable 10 micron paper filter.

Of course it was only about $25 when I bought it 20 years ago

Thank you for the link.
But it's very long at 6 inches; will it fit in the original position?
And what about the original question, about microns ?

Oh sorry I didn't even think of original location.
I have the filter parallel to the pump with a 180 degree fitting between the 2.

I used a Pingle fuel tap with a later micro screen and removed the troublesome and expensive stock filter. Never had a issue with it over the miles and years. :thumbup

Thank you Charlie
Thank you Raceink
I don't quite understand.
I also want to install a Pingel petcock because my original one doesn't close properly anymore.
But what does "...with a later micro screen..." mean?

Sorry, sometimes my English fails me :-)

edit : So you completely removed the original fuel filter?

Pingle has one with reserve now. Also need a adapter plate ...which I used to have the part numbers....but I'll bet they are on here somewhere.

ok i think i understand now
you use a pingel inline filter

That's almost exactly what I had in mind, just on a smaller scale.

But doesn't the same question arise there regarding the micron size?

The image you linked shows a filter with 40 microns; isn't that too small (mikrons) and doesn't it create too much resistance for use "before the pump,"

Doesn't a rule of thumb state that (with fuel injection systems) you should use a 100 micron filter BEFORE the pump and a 40 micron filter AFTER the pump?

or did you install it after the pump?

@charlie
Troublesome stock filter,
what specific problems are you referring to? The flow rate?

I actually called pingle and I think Mike was the main man to talk to there and I asked him about it.His response was well top fuel bikes use them so it should be ok for yours. I installed it where the old one was.I have a fuel pressure gauge where I could watch the pressure and I had a problem once on a Sunday drive.I would get on it and start to build boost then fall on its face all the whole time watching the pressure go down.I headed back home took out filter cleaned it good as new..try that with the stock one. :)

Yes, that sounds convincing, so it should work.
Thank you.
