Just Bought an 84 Turbo!

Post by FarrerOut »

Just wanted to hop on and introduce myself.
My Name is Grady, I run Farrer Out Transmission with my father and we've both been into Kawi bikes forever.
Our business is racing automatic transmissions, mainly for drag racing but we dabble in some offroad, tractor pulling, circle racing, etc
If it has a torque converter we've probably messed with one!

I started on an 87 EX500 when I was 14
Dad has had an 83 KZ550 he bought brand new off the floor. With tasteful mods over the years
My daily-rider is an 81 KZ1000 CSR with a few tasteful mods also

I just bought an 84 GPZ 750 Turbo. It's a "barn find" and needs some love to get back on the road.
I'm not quite sure what I want to do with it just yet. If I want to just get it running and enjoy it, or do a full bare frame restoration/rebuild.
Either way, I'm glad I found this forum and I've already been reading for a week or so and am loving all the good info that's been shared over the years.

I hope to find a few stickies on the best mods for handling, braking, exhaust, etc

I actually sent you an email before I made my welcome post here! This bike has been sitting and I suspect may need a turbo service...which is the perfect time to upgrade!

Looking forward to getting this thing going!

Hi and welcome to the gang. :thumbup

If you are planning on doing anything, I would say taking it down to a bare frame, getting it cleaned and painted would be a good idea. Then put everything back together cleaning all the bits as you go. Get the nuts, bolts, washers, etc. plated or new ones if possible as it goes back together. Then you wave a nice clean stock bike, mostly original.

If you do want to, do any mods or upgrades as you go instead. There are a few things worth doing. Funds will guide you, as well as your capabilities. :popcorn

Welcome aboard :beer

My vote is to give a good wash and polish , maybe repaint a few uglies , give at a full service and run it .

If after running it for awhile you want to do a full restore and have the time and money , go for it
84 750E1 ,zx7 swing arm & rim , Zr7s shock ,dyna coils, k&n , bov , afpr , variable resistor for race mode. Ported spider ,dump pipe , Evergreen billet HT-10 , RTI hydraulic clutch .
