Laconia NH bike week 2019

Post by georgew4714 »

Hey all , its now almost mid February and the annual Laconia bike week is just short of 4 months away . June 8th through the 16th .

Even though us Northeast guys will get together at least a couple times throughout the year , laconia is always a lock for most of us .
I usually take the week off but dont make it there until mid week cause im usually scrambling to finish something on my bike that i procrastinated about throughout the winter .

I got lazy and this is basically a copy and paste of my invite from last year but all still applies .

I live 1 1/2 - 2 hours away from downtown where all the harleys hang . If any body is thinking about making the trip , ill help in any way i can to make things go smoothly . If your on the fence about a parts failure on your turbo so far from home , please dont let that stop you . Short of a blown motor , i have many spares , a lift and the majority of the tools needed to get you back up and running . I may be lacking a little in diagnostic experience but ive rebuilt mine many times so im sure we can work through anything .

We usually do a few long rides and the white mountains are beautiful scenery with pretty nice roads . Not as nice as you guys in the Tennessee area but still great .

Hope to see a some of you make it

Well, I guess at this point the big man upstairs is maybe trying to tell me something. Two times I have tried to save money to make this run, starting as far back as last year. The nest egg I had set aside last year got ate up by vet bills for the fricken dog, over a $1000 dollars worth. I jokingly told the wife for about .25 cents I could put a .45 slug between his eyes and it would be a whole lot cheaper. For some reason that didn't go over to well.

So I started rebuilding the nest egg and it was looking like things might work out until Monday afternoon on my way home from work. I was sitting at a stop sign minding my own dam business waiting to make a left hand turn when the guy across the intersection decided he wanted to go for it, which is of course fine if it is clear, but it was not and a lady in a little H*nda CRV T-Boned the back of his van, spun it around on two wheels and slammed it into the front of my truck. Now my truck is an old 1991 Dodge 1 ton that belonged to my Father in-law. He left it to me before he passed a few years back. I know it is old and not what most people drive these day, but it 's mine and I like it. Not to mention how much it would hurt my wife if we had to get rid of it.

Oh, wait, it gets better  as if it could right. So my wife had showed up at the crash site (Probably to check out the damage to the truck, more than me  ) So after everything was done with the cops and stuff she tells me I am going to stop for gas because I haven't filled up the truck yet. Well I make it about 3/4 of the way home and she is calling me, the F250 Super Duty that we have and she drives every day will not start. So I go get tools and go to the gas station where she is at and one of the batteries is dead. (Yes the truck has 2 batteries) So I remove the 2 old batteries, go to the auto parts store and get 2 new ones for a small price of $350 dollars. Now that's not too bad of a price and I am not complaining, but this was a part of the nest egg I had set aside for this Laconia run.

Now my truck is not drivable because it put some big holes in the radiator. So I fixed everything else temporarily but the stop leak I put in the radiator did not work. So today I am spending the other part of the nest egg to get a new radiator, around $300. And yes I know they can be fixed and stuff but there is like 3 rather good size holes in this thing and it needs to be replaced so I can feel good about it and not worry down the line, or be stranded some place in the future.

Of course the reason for this is because I need transportation other than the bike. Also because, wait it gets better. The guy who caused the crash lied to the cops and said he was turning right and the other lady re-ended him. So I can not wait on the insurance companies because he may contest this, which means an investigation and Bla, Bla, Bla. So who knows how long this will take and if I will even see and $ to eventually get the truck fixed. Which no matter what most likely won't happen any way because it is so old the insurance comp. will most likely total it. What that means is I will have to buy it back from them and fix it my self, which will most likely mean $ out of my pocket also because they will most likely not give me enough to fix it.

So at this point everything is up in the air, I am even considering getting rid of the bike because I just don't have time or money to be working on two projects at the same time, and I really need reliable transportation more than riding a bike in all weather.

So I think Laconia is out, and we shall see what happens down the road. The most important thing is that no one was hurt. :victory So those of you who are going please be safe and have a great time. :beer

Dam rough week . Hopefully They will see threw his lies and pay up . Thats a shame about the truck . Im a dodge guy and have seen the truck in the background of some of your pics . Theres not many left in that shape around here and parts are hard to come by . Hope you get what you need to get her up and running again .

Stop all that talk about selling the bike .

Glad to hear no one was injured .

JEEZ ... WTF LFD !?!?

seems like you'll have a busy month ahead of you . So does that mean you'll be showing up on Tuesday instead of sunday ? :humour

Seriously though , im not really understanding your desire to sell the bike again . At this point doesn't it run pretty well ?
Ive done alot of work in the past on mine but at this point I dont have to work on it ( besides oil and tire changes ) unless i have time and want to modify something.

Well Bike Week in Laconia has come and gone . Sorry about my absence from the forum and lack of updates and for that matter pictures, been a tough year . May shed some light on that in the next couple days in padds pub .

My bike ran great . Threw on some new front rubber before i left . Met up with riturbo and his crew on monday and toured the castle in the clouds. Went back home monday night cause it was supposed to rain most of Tuesday. Met up with a member from the ZRX forum on Wednesday and went to the AMA sponsored hill climb event , where i again met up with riturbo , his crew and even mopar . Was a pretty warm day , so once we got back to riturbos sons room , the beer and jello shots flowed very freely , so to speak and i chose to stay the night .
High tailed it back home Thursday morning but got caught in the rain the last 40 minutes anyway .
Tom66 met me at my house friday morning and we cruised back into laconia for the yearly Kancamangus run , which involves a pretty good sized loop ( route 93 ( triple digit speeds )to the kancamangus highway (long with twistys , hairpins, sweepers, elevation changes )to bear notch road ( very bumpy, tight , twistys again) to 302( long sweepers , nice scenery)and back to route 93)
Usually we do this early to midweek but because of the rain it got put off till friday . Unfortunately we couldn't ride it the way we normally do due to the amount of traffic so the speeds were kinda held in check .... bummer !!
I came home that night and stayed home for Saturday cause of a sore back , which sucked cause besides Wednesday, Saturday was probably the best day weather wise .
This was a picture i took of smaller than normal crew at a lookout on bear notch road .
