New Years Day Run

Post by longfiredragon »

Hello all, and Happy New Year to all. Hope 2019 is in good health and prosperous for all. There is a social media site my son-in-law goes on called BCMR (Brevard County Motorcycle Riders) so we hooked up with about 10 guys, and gals yesterday for a short ride. One guy was on a built 2017 ZX 14R, cams, pipe, not sure what all he has done to it. One guy was on a 2017 R1. At about 90, 100 miles an hour we jumped on it, the guy with the ZX 14R has too long of a swing arm I think and too small of a rear tire because his back tire just went up in smoke. The guy on the R1 just dusted both of are asses.

He was in 2nd gear and when he hit the throttle it was like being launched out of a cannon. Both of them beat the turbo like I was going backwards. Granted I am only at 10 PSI, but I don't think if I was at 20 PSI on race fuel it would have mattered. The R1 stomped both of us hard. The new liter bikes at 200 RWHP and just a little over 400 pounds are just crazy fast.

Oh well, we had some fun on a short ride and no one got hurt, so all was good. :victory

Sounds like fun . Those new bikes are stupid fast . You really cant complain you are riding a 35 year old bike . Wonder how many of those plastic fantastic bikes will still be around 35 years from now . Probably wont be around to see but I bet not many .

Thanks guys, I hope it didn't seem like I was complaining, I have owned a 2013 ZX14R I already know as riturbo put it, the newer liter bikes are stupid fast. Wasn't complaining just stating facts. I am always proud of the old girl, she does well for her age. And everyone was very respectful and thought the turbo was really cool. And not boasting here, but most were young riders who really haven't learned how to ride their R6, & 636's & ZX6 R's in anything but a straight line. After our first run of a pretty curvy road called Windover Estates, myself starting out in the back and then passing every one except the two guys who started out in the front on the R1 and a 636 and I was on their heels coming into the last two corners. When they stopped at the end and looked behind them they had a look of shock on their faces, like what the? it's the fecking old guy on the turbo, he was right up our butts. (I had already earned the name old turbo guy at the gas station before we left) Now I was old fast turbo guy  The turbo, never really disappoints, and always surprises. :victory

Good work mate, or should I say, old fast turbo guy! Wear that title with pride! Keep those young whipper snappers on their toes! :thumbup
The problem is not the problem, the problem is your attitude towards the problem.

high roll speeds put the GPz at a dramatic disadvantage. A straight up drag race or start from ~30mph will even the score til the engine ran out of air. The turbo makes ~75 ft lbs of torque in stock form which is pretty damned good considering the age.
A modern liter bike makes about 85 ft lbs. A zx14 makes about 100ish stock.
Thats IF all the riders had the same skillset.

My gsxr will hit about 115 in first gear... its pretty tall. I can get through the 1/8th mile in 2nd gear
