Re: Bums to Bonniville- gsxr 750 turbo
I think ive read through that. very long, but good read non the less! It only fuels my fire haha. Throttle bodies from 07-08 gsxr 1000 on the way. MegaBOOM stuff incl wideband controller, sensor, and gauge all on the way ( they're having a black friday sale incase anyone wants something from there.)Lorcan wrote:Jim Short's Bonneville experience:

Did lots of reading up on bell mouths or ram tubes or velocity stacks.. what ever theyre called. Anyone have any idea on how to size them? On one of the links posted on this thread, the guy gave dimensions as so: outlet is 2.?? smaller then the inlet, length is = outlet diameter, and the elliptical flare is .08x the inlet diameter. Thoughts anyone?
Lorc: did you use one or have you ever used one at the inlet of a turbo?

Re: Bums to Bonniville- gsxr 750 turbo
From what I gathered reading that Blair paper, the outright shape of the bellmouth doesn't matter all that much. Just find one that will fit in your plenum and match the intake port diameter.
If you want to get picky, look for an 'elliptical' curve, as discussed in:
http://www.profblairandassociates.com/p ... lmouth.zip
Examples are fig. 7 and the bottom shape on fig. 14a and 14b.

I used one on the turbo inlet on my dragbike, but I don't think I'd want it inhaling buckets of salt...

Re: Bums to Bonniville- gsxr 750 turbo
Now here comes another question, could be bumped due to the fact i know its on other threads but i dont know if they'd relate to my circumstance: water/methanol injection---> to do? or not to do? opinions and pros and cons please. I read through a website by RB Racing last night and all of their turbo gsxr 1100s in the late 80's early 90's were injected with water over 10 psi and ran 270hp+ @ 18 lbs of boost. Something i should consider maybe?
Also, does anybody know of any sort of house hold chemical or liquid with a very high latent heat absorbing characteristic that evaporates @ room temperature - preferably non corrosive

Alcohols. Ammonia, if you hold your breath during the run...

How will this be used?
What do the rules say about charge cooling? I don't suppose liquid oxygen (to be directly injected into the mix!) is on the 'Approved' list?

Re: Bums to Bonniville- gsxr 750 turbo
Forget the water injection. It works by displacing fuel thereby making less power so you turn the boost up to compensate and find you are back where you started. Funnily enough, water is not a fuel....
Run the bike on alcohol if you want, but that's another learning curve
My advice would be to stick to high octane race gas and an intercooler/chargecooler.

I just wired $500 to this genius doctor dude in Pakistan. He's going to send me plans for an HHO converter that will run my car coast-to-coast on two cups of piss!

What i was thinking about is using something to spray the intercooler besides window washer fluid or water that will absorb a lot of heat by vaporizing- latent heat. What i want to do is basically spray liquid refrigerant at the intercooler and use that to further cool the air.. if i could use an actual refrigerant i could probably make the intercooler temperature drop well below ambient.i could even go as far as to control the temperature vs amount of refrigerant needed to be sprayed with a TXV( thermal expansion valve ), they have a probe that meters refrigerant based on the probe temperature. problem is, the environment people dont like it when you dump ozone depleting stuff in the air.
Oxygen would be GREAT... i think it would melt the motor tho.

Re: Bums to Bonniville- gsxr 750 turbo
I just realized something- they have EBC 120 octane leaded fuel at BUB. I dont need to be concerned with detonation with octane like that now do i?

Re: Bums to Bonniville- gsxr 750 turbo
You always need to be concerned about detonation but if it's intercooled and mapped correctly you should be fine. I don't know about the salt but at drag strips you can't spray the outside of an intercooler as it makes the track wet. You can use a chargecooler...

Re: Bums to Bonniville- gsxr 750 turbo
The '120 octane' graph on the prior page suggests you might be OK with a low .C.R, but at ~40 PSI of boost, I don't think anything is guaranteed.jmckechnie@live.ca wrote:I just realized something- they have EBC 120 octane leaded fuel at BUB. An intercooler installed in the usual place is going to make a hell of a lot of drag. Perhaps you could squeeze one into the tail section and use fans to chill it? Or skip it altogether and replace the gas tank with an ice chest and an air/liquid charge cooler.
