It's only a 750...how fast can it be?

Bit of tinkering on a rainy Saturday. Finding all the parts has been a challenge. The swingarm has a tank which I guess was originally for ice water, I'll probably use it as a catch can. The right side of the arm will hold air for the air shifter so no need for a separate bottle. Mick H is going to machine down the steering stem for me. Looking forward to being able to wheel it about as a roller, then I can really get an idea of how low I can get the fairing.

Unfortunately my race cylinder head with larger exhaust valves and ported to match the Z1000J inlet rubbers is cracked between the valve seat and the plug hole. The first Z1s suffered from exactly this problem and Kawasaki made the combustion chamber metal thicker to cure it for later models. I have a couple of spare heads though so not insurmountable.

Whacked the steering races in and just drawing up the stem I need. The neck is really short so this is what I think I need to use the ZX10R yokes.

New top yoke to enable running of super short ZX10R forks.

Read through the Project bastard thread - and see here the project is getting close to completion.

Just friendly advice working with those ignition coils - do not over dwell them! If you are not aware, they have built in “self protection” so if the dwell time is set too high in the ECU, the coils will “self discharge” to prevent heat damage to the coils, BUT this means they are firing early and will quickly destroy an engine with detonation! One of the worst “fail safes” ever invented ….

Those coils have lots of spark energy even at short dwell times. I have a very expensive, extensively ported head that is now a paper weight as a result of over dwelling LSx coils. 4.5ms is considered the max with most people using 3.5 to 4.0.

Apologies if you are already aware of this - just don’t want to see anyone else get bit by that little detail!

Can’t wait to see this run in anger!
