Billet turbo, FPR, wastegate

Post by Turbo125 »

Hi everybody,

My bike is an Italian registered E1 - Feb 1984, frame number below 800. Two owners, full stock with 11.000km on the clock.

I wish to keep her as stock as possible, but the following mods:

- billet turbo by Charlie
- k&n air filter
- race mode activated

Now, based on what I read on this forum, I seem to understand that:

- in the above configuration, no resistor is needed when the race mode function is activated. That means 20% more fuel and air that should be compensated by billet compressor and k&n
- correct fuel pressure should be 40lbs
- correct max boost should be 14 lbs
- TPS may need manual calibration for correct idling.

My questions:

- how do I adjust FP with original regulator?
- how do I set wastegate to 14lbs (granted Charlie might do this while he rebuilds the turbo)

Any suggestions much appreciated!

Thanks!!!

Will need 41 42 lbs fuel pressure in Race Mode. Unfortunately you will need to change FPR to a adjustable 1:1 setup.
TPS is not just for idle, it affects the fueling thru the RPM range also. This is important to get your bike tuned correclty with any setup you use. Kawa set the TPS lean from factory which is why many start up with out fast idle lever used and idle straight up from push of starter button.
14 to 15 lbs boost is safe limit with stock engine with pump grade fuel. No higher or your melt a piston like many of us have. Like Lorcan says don't get greedy with the boost! I did and burned it!
Suggest you do your injectors so you know there spot on.
Turbo waste gate will be set up to be right at 14 lbs give or take 1 lb.

Thank you Charlie.

Let’s say I keep the standard mode. Would billet turbo and K&N still need to mess with FP?

If you want to use the billet turbo you would still use race mode. What have done for several is set the boost at stock level about 12 lbs and they only set the TPS a touch rich and the fueling was good to go. If you send turbo with billet upgrade make sure you enclose a note for stock FP boost setup. You will still need to check your plugs make sure your not lean to be safe.

Thanks Charlie.
It looks like I may need a dyno expert to be on a safe side.

The stock exhaust is very restrictive, you won't get the full benefits of these upgrades if you keep it.
First to 200mph (2006) and still the fastest (211mph)
