air intake

Post by gpzrfan »

I may have missed this on the many inputs on this site...... I'm wondering has anyone added additional breasting holes around the turbo K&N type filter area ???? would some additional drill holes matter ......

gpzrfan, not exactly sure what you are referring to? If you mean putting additional holes in the belly pan around where the filter attaches to the turbo?

I see racers with the turbo wide open and no filter, of course they are just making one pass down the 1/4 mile so no need for a filter. Other types of racing I see just a filter.

I don't know that much, but I would say with our bikes there is already the hole in the belly pan, a few more holes around that area probably wouldn't do much. At least not any thing noticable. Of course I have been wrong before. Maybe one of the experts will chime in.

I can't see it doing a lot. The K&N filter has plenty of room around it to draw air from.

More air flow hitting filter helps I would think. You could also instead of drilling holes in your belly pan just open the hole up same shape but larger till air hits the whole filter. Could maybe make it look so close to OEM most would not notice it. Plus you would have air hitting it directly at speed like ram air does on intakes.

I had forgot I posted this question

Thanks for the replies.

I was just thinking the "standard" hole for the filter only covers a small part of the filter . Now Charlie has me thinking again

it will only end in tears
