TPS Colvern

Postby mankam » Tue Feb 25, 2020 7:04 pm

I was looking for a replacement TPS for this 35 years old part because those gremlins effect with ETS to the good running Gpz750 turbos
The idea beginning from here:
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=16527

The Colvern TPS is a modern bilaterally two side 5v Tps,

Important: this mode is at your own risk.

Some data:

TPS Ohm range compare unplug from throttle bodies

OEM 0.40 ~ 2000 Ω
COLVERN 1.35 Ω ~ 6400 Ω

Before start this modification is important to write on paper the voltage usable range from OEM tps to ecu (this is start point to setup the colvern tps)
Set the multimeter in DC range, one lead (black) to the ground ( battery) the other lead (red) to tps wire pin 4 Blue/white or 11 ecu pin,
open the ignition switch (kill switch also open no running bike) you must see the idle voltage about 5volt more or less
note it exactly, now open full throttle the voltage decreasing about 0.50 v or more note it exactly.

(example: 5.15v to 0.5ov full throttle) every bike is different!

Yoy need a 3mm metal mounting plate like this to be compatible with the throttle boddies the DFI Cover it goes right on it

Dremel or File to grinding the throttle axle flat side (Not much) to insert in to the colvern

Use the colvern Tps from the side without the label sticker, the cable from left to right: Blue, Red, Black

Cable connections

OEM TPS to COLVERN
Ecu Pin 5- Tps 3 pin BL/R => Black (-) ground
Ecu Pin 11 -Tps 4 pin BL/W => Red (Sensor)
Ecu Pin17 - Tps 5 pin BL/O => Blue (+) Positive

In practice the Colvern voltage range is wider up to 7 volts and does not match the throttle boddies angle opening.

I solve this problem using the same circuit stolen from pc3
Installation instructions :D to make down the voltage
The ecu flash (code 11) when the voltage is under 0.25volt and more than 6.10volt

Before start the bike after this mod, setup the colvern voltage to ecu pin 11 same as imposible with OEM tps numper start with idle voltage.
My bike run good with this TPS, any question please ask me.

Hope this mode helps as you know there are no spare parts available for this old turbo kawi

Thanks Mankam for this info, this is certainly a part that is going to cause a lot of grief in the years to come, great to have an option to replace it.
The problem is not the problem, the problem is your attitude towards the problem.
