Tire post again

Post by bonyt »

Hi Turbo fans,
Looking for a new set of rubbers for the turbo.

Standard sizes are 110/90-18 front and 130/80-18 rear.

I've read through pretty much every post on tires on the site, and see that some recommend the Bridgestone BT54 radials, leading to a much improved ride according to one poster, although real life feedback not found.

The sizes though are not standard sizes, but 110/80-18 front and 140/70-18 rear. Only one size difference here, and for sure there are no fitment issues on the rims, but looking at
overall diameter the 110/80-18 is .9" smaller diameter, meaning front tire is sitting .450" (almost 1/2" lower) than standard size.
The rear at 140/80-18 overall diameter is .320" smaller, meaning the rear tire will sit .160" (not that much) lower than standard.
A question for anyone who has fitted these tires.
How is the handling affected with a noticeable lower front tire, and little difference, although minorly lower, on rear tire.

Even going with bias ply tires, there are many manufacturers with the 110/80-18 for the front tires, but only one I've found so far with the correct 110/90-18 front tire.
Looks like the Avon Roadrider Mk 2 is the only manufacturer with both tires at the correct OEM sizes.

Everything on the bike is OEM, so not swapping different wheels, swingarm, forks, etc.

Can anyone provide feedback who are running the 110/80-18 front tires, with the standard rear, 130/80-18?
Thanks in advance.
The number of bikes you should own = (N+1), where N is the number of bikes you currently own. :thumbup

I like the RoadRiders on my stock suspended, stock wheeled bike, they feel great, turn in real nice.

It was a long time ago but I bought a turbo with a pirelli Strada? 110/80-18 on the front & it handled like shit. 110/80 was a common front size back then GSXR's etc but they chose differently for the GPZ & turbo.
You should try to know everything about something & something about everything.
