810 conversion - A dumb question?
810 conversion - A dumb question?
Hi,
I am in planning stages of rebuild and given old pistons are shot and appear to be made of unobtainium am looking at the 810 kit from Wiseco. My plan is to use the wet liner from a GPX750 to avoid thin wall issues. Do I need to bore out crankcase "throat" to fit these in or is it just the cylinder block that has to be opened up?

Re: 810 conversion - A dumb question?
I know changing the liners is preferable. I'm running 810 on standard liners, bike is in std trim apart from that, no other power enhancements. This is so I don't have to modify the crankcase and can return it to a 750 later if I wish. I kept by the std pistons, probably could find a ring set from another model one day. As you say the over bored std liners are thin, probably 1mm wall thickness, absolute bugger to get the oversize pistons into as there's hardly any chamfer left to help guide them in.

Regarding installing the cylinders over the pistons. I used 4 pieces 1 inch high PVC tubing with a slit in it so it clamps up tight on the rings & cable ties. Straight on. Cut the ties. Done. Maybe ten minutes mins to make.

Somethin like this BTF?
The problem is not the problem, the problem is your attitude towards the problem.

Thanks Gents, I like it!
Will be going this way for sure, once I start assembly.

Re: 810 conversion - A dumb question?
this issue makes no sense especially if you use a quality oil.
also did anyone both to understand that only 2 pistons go in the bores at a time???

As Tina Turner said "Whats oil got to do with it?" Asking for a friend
You slip the barrells over like that & their a real prick to get in without the ring thingys unless its just our weak girlie fingers of course. Can you do it with 2 pistons up? Doing like this is a piece of piss & no sore fingers.

I ran 810 in std liners for 20k miles no issues.
