This is a first class modern rethinking of this classic bike and there may be some that wish to follow in your footsteps. I don't wish to be crass but it would be informative if you could release the cost of this project if any of us would like to contemplate building such a bike.

Hi Eckhard, I don't have a precise total and even if I did I wouldn't post it in case my wife ever reads this blog. As you can probably guess, it was an expensive project. The swing arm, yokes, exhaust and wheels were all specially made for this bike and there are lots of other one-off parts as well. It would actually be quite difficult to replicate without a lot of help from me. Maybe the best answer is that if anyone is mad enough to want a similar bike, then I would be delighted to arrange for all the special parts to be re-made by Harris, Dymag, Racefit etc. Offer me enough money and I'll build a whole bike for you! I would love to turn this into a business but I doubt there are enough people who would be prepared to pay what it would cost to make another bike to this standard.

Incidentally a mate sent me a message today, having just read the article, telling me what an amazing build he had just seen in PSB and I should contact the bloke to help me build my race bike. I look forward to your input.

Simple spec 250 BHP and 220mph go easy on the spending though.

Hi Mang, that did make me laugh. I am 100% sure I would be unable to add anything to your amazing project and I do know that I am not good at working to tight budgets. My bike now has 168bhp at 10psi and the dyno guy reckons there's more to come. 200bhp at 15psi is probably achievable but 250bhp....

I can get you a lovely Racefit free-flow silencer, see pics in for sale section, but it won't be cheap.

£10 home made slash pipe for me. My stock bike has original pipes which I am about to take off and store as they are near perfect and I have a set that are far from perfect that I will keep on the bike. Sad really but I know I will never get a set as good as the ones I have on the bike at the moment.

I have a set of brand new unused silencers and am wondering what to do with them. I am restoring a standard turbo but the buyer wants some refurbished silencers so my NOS ones are just gathering dust at the moment.

It's not a big list. Standard throttle bodies but with modern Bosch injectors and standard plenum chamber. Biggest change is a Motec M84 ECU running sequential injection and Bosch ignition module using all-new modern sensors. Also the ECU is controlled from the MAP sensor, not the TPS. 810cc Wiseco pistons, Charlie's billet turbo mod and a bespoke free-flow inconel/titanium exhaust from Racefit. There's a wide band Lambda sensor to adjust the fuelling as necessary but no knock sensor. I think the valves and seats have been updated but it was so long ago that I've forgotten. Standard camshafts and new OE coils. Boost currently set to 10psi mainly because we now have problems with clutch slip.

London sure you can get the parts there but Roger Twito's sells his heavy spring kit and hydraulic clutch that work great with no slip in high HP bikes. Ridden Scott Schmits 810 that has the biggest billet on the road built with lots of engine work like I did on mine (liners, cases, crank rods valves etc. with bolt ons) and it is soft and smooth as silk. Solves the problem with a nice smooth clutch action.

Heavy springs only gets you so far. Mine was slipping at 196hp with heavy springs in. The ultimate solution remains the lockup. Nice light action and no slip - guaranteed!
