Wiring Question

Postby Detrailers » Mon Sep 21, 2020 9:40 pm

have one slight issue with my custom indicator light set up.

Since I only have one indicator light for both left and right sigs, I just wired both hots that use to be L and R indicator wires to the single light. Problem is that now when I hit and L or R sig, both L and R sigs light up...like flashers. I assume this is because I have both wires together at the indicator light.

How can I overcome this so I get an idicator for each side thru the single dash light and have the sigs work like they should?

You’ll need a diode installed on each signal wire right before the dash light. Basically a diode is a check valve for electricity. (It’ll let the current through in one direction but not the other.) The diode will have a stripe on one end the signifies the flow direction. I think the stripe will be toward the dash light but it’s been long time since I did this. And sorry if you already know what some of the terms mean; I don’t know you familiarity with electronics.

Pretty sure I have seen a bulb holder with three wires going to it, similar to the headlight.

Something like this.

Easier to just make a "T" with bullet connectors. Unplug one of the front indicator wires. Stick the T in the middle with a diode on the tail to go to the dash light. Repeat on other side.
You should try to know everything about something & something about everything.

Easiest way is to just have 2 indicator lights. Just saying.

Can't, see my pic of the set up...perfectly spaced 4 up there, if I added another it would be off center. Not OCD compliant!

I get that it would suck to try and change it now. I was talking about starting out with 5 LEDS to begin with. Then you have 5 LEDS evenly spaced and no issue. Of course I also understand you did it the way you wanted it I suppose, and that's all good. I am sure you will get it sorted, and have the one blinking for both. Personally I prefer one indicator for each signal, but that's what makes the world go around. :thumbup

Do you still have a flasher set up? That would balance things out by adding one each side for the indicators and using the current one for flashers. ;) :humour

I so wish I did that now....

Yep, everything stock. I ordered some diodes, should be fairly easy to wire them in. Going to figure out how to wire one into the neutral light too because it illuminates every time I pull the clutch in because of the Magura set up.
