Thanks Chris

This is the first one from Japan but Noato has a lot of friends and some with turbo's. His turbo needed a lot of work and replacement parts. There turbo shop in Japan couldn't get parts to fix it. Will see if more come but its really fun to see them come from all over the world as these 750s seem to be coming out of the woodwork. Exciting for sure. :thumbup

Wanted to share some rarely seen turbo issues. Been doing this for 29 years. Seen a lot of reasons for turbos to fail usually its a engine problem with debris in oil or poor tune causing super heating the internals to a crisp..from timing to retarded.
But this is a new one. Never seen this before and its on a HT10. Todds in Michigan called said it was acting strange and smoking.
Upon tear down...well it was self explanatory but follow along. Had two come back with issues this week and both showed why.
Rebuilt and machined them up in over under specs so there spot on again.

First one is a material failure. Can you see the issue??

Lets show you what it came out of the Bearing Housing

This was in the bore..spec is pretty tight tolerance so it spun in the bearing bore as usual in 2 pieces!
But it was dragging and hanging up scoring the bore and shaft. Machined them to .010-.005 to get specs back. Crazy it did not destroy the turbo. Also replaced the compressor wheel as it started to rub blades.
Shipped back to Todd and as I back up our turbos N/C

Second HT 10 that came in last week was Vinces (Capt) spare turbo as it has some light smoke off on and dripping.

Found scoring in the bores pretty heavy and the Thrust Ramps on Thrust Bearing pretty worn. Some wear on the Journal Bearings. Machined it up also to a .010-.005 set of bearings and good to go.
Shipped back to Vince also today N/C like mentioned..things do happen and I take care of it either way if my fault like a bad bearing or debris fault. Take care of my guys here.

Wear on Capt's Journal & Thrust Bearing Ramps from debris in oil. Most of the time this is from residue debris left from the dampers that get all over the inside of the engine cases..couple of quick oil changes every couple hundred miles is suggested to get this debris out. Vince has done this so he should be good to go. If you didn't rebuild your basket..this will happen fairly quickly again.
