How to adjust a manual cam chain
tensioner, by Ryan
1) remove spark plugs and ignition cover.
2) back off locking nut on adjuster.
3) finger tighten adjuster bolt while turning crankshaft by hand
4) certain cam events, you will "feel" slack being taken up, do
not force adjuster bolt at these events. Just let steady finger
tightening tension do the work.
5) IMPORTANT: when slack is fully taken up, "back off" adjuster
nut one flat. Then tighten locknut.
6) install spark plugs and timing cover.
It's been posted before to "run" the engine while making
adjustments. Please do not to this. Do not forget to loosen the
adjusting nut one flat. One flat is the six flat spots on the nut.
It's not much. The cam chain needs some slack.
