Post 515hp Busa!
I witnessed a 515hp run by The Motorhead with a big a$$ Innovative/Garret turbo on his Busa. The thing spools late but man it hits like hell. Pretty amazing whatching the chassis get torqued all over the place...

What size motor?
Is that the bike from California he's been working on...with the custom exhaust?

Check out www.dragbike.com,the Haybusa zone in the forums. There is the dyno pull listed for a high power bike from NLR. The highest reading is 632HP.

Yeah...Id believe when I saw it.

Funny I didnt think DJ had software that could read above 500hp.

Oh 'blew. Your so negative all the time. Why can't you just post something positive once. It's not that difficult, really. Maybe your not up with the latest DynoJet software? Maybe they didn't use a DynoJet Dyno. People have been getting well over 500hp from the old KZ roller crank engines for many years. If you don't trust my saying this, please visit a race track sometime when the Pro Gas bikes are in town. Unload some of your hostility while your there. I beleive you would enjoy watching all these bikes run, the people are friendly, the bikes are fast. Who knows, maybe you'll meet a nice girl.

Post what??
I wasnt disputing the first post about 515hp.. but the 630hp from the NLR bike is suspicious..being that NOBODY is running that combo in dragracing.
And nobody is disputing that old KZ motors can put out big hp..if you have the money to do so. I have seen big hp KZ motors go down the track..they just dont do it as often as I like.
Nothing negative about my post except Id like to see further proof that the shop can actually produce those numbers. I dont even think NLR has a team dragracing. And you're correct...NLR didnt use a DynoJet dyno for the magical 600hp+ run!
Everyone going fast in Streetbike Shootout is using stock bore motors.
If being negative means having to see proof...well then. Im negative.

Post Re: what??
Good post 'blew, sorry the old air-cooled KZ don't always put on a good show. You know those guys try hard against the newer stuff. I posted a pic of the "Jones" Pro Gas bike, they are the points leader in the country (Nationals) I really enjoyed watching them run when they came through. Th eold KZ had a stock block. What you said about the streetbike shootout bikes being stock bore made me think of their bike. I really didn't know the streetbike shootout's were stock bore engines. Is that just the 'busa & ZX12's or is that across the manufacturing board? When they were here, an older Suzuki 1150 running what looked like a Mr. Turbo aftermarket setup, made an incredible 8.20 pass. Laid down a black tire mark the length of the track, the anouncer commented. I watched the run, no tire smoke, just a hard pulling pass with no problems. He ended up winning the shootout here but wasn't the points leader for the series. Just goes to show, don't judge a bike by it's looks. That bike was clean but didn't appear to have an 8 second potential.

Whenever something new is released, there's always the hype factor. It lasts a few weeks into track tests then fades from view. Those guys on dragbike seem to cope with all the hoopla pretty well. Like a wolf waiting for nightfall over a flock of sheep.

Hey, keep up the positive posting, it's really good to see you can.

Post Re: what??
The NLR bike was a Pro-Mod motor in a streetbike chassis. This was only done as a show of force. NLR said they would not actually run a bike with that setup, and yes they do have a shootout bike but not with that motor. The shootout bikes can't use more than about 350hp (according to Rickey Gadson) on a run because of the street tyre being such a limiting factor. I don't have any problem with 5-600hp figures. F1 turbo cars were running twice that in the 1980s with 1500ccs. It's easy to get 200hp out of a modern bike engine with no turbo. A 300hp turbo is very streetable, 400 at a push. MrTurbo ran a ZZR to nearly 500hp years ago, and that was only 1109cc.

When it comes to 500hp+ territory dynos become irrelevant. There is a difference between accelerating a drum and trying to accelerate a planet, and there are so many other factors at work that dyno figures become meaningless. For these bikes, the only true dyno is the track. You won't see Gary Clarke's funnybike on a dyno.

For what it's worth I rather enjoy the old KZs running against the new stuff. The KZs have a displacement advantage and beefy engines (easy to get to 1500cc), and the new stuff is lightweight, revs higher and has better head design. The new stuff will win, eventually. The new age funnys hold all the cards at the moment.

Motorcycle drag racing gets absolutely no respect, even from motorcycle riders. Years ago when no one had been over 220mph on a fuel bike,Elmer Trett ran 221mph and the crowd went wild. On the next pass the announcer commented "would he be able to back up that magic run". He did with 226mph. Calculation had been made that it would take over 1000hp to run 220mph.

Recently with the advent of on board accelerometers, true calculations can be made. The weight is known,as is the gear ratio,so the torque can be calculated,as can the HP. Recently these numbers give an figure of 8000HP on a fuel car and one car at the point of clutch lock-up required 9800HP to do what the numbers said.

Realistcally, the new motor combustion chambers are very good. The bores are large and the strokes are short. When turbos were legal in F-1 car,1.5 liters (93cu in) motors were making 1000HP. A stock Hayabusa motor is 1300cc and I have no doubt that tuners can make big power. In 92 I was at the "Brute Horsepower Shootout" in Daytona and saw Dennis Dismet ride in on a stock appearing GSXR Suzuki. It won the event by making 342HP. In later years Terry Kizer(Mr Turbo) made 500HP.

The new benchmark is 701hp.

Post What does one do with 701 hp?
I bought a turbo'd busa last summer that makes 300 'ish' hp. That's too much for the street! At 450 or so the bikes do 6th gear power whelies. Check out the Ghost Rider videos.
By the way, my 750 turbo is way smoother and easier to ride AND would take the turbo Busa to 80 mph or so.
After that though, FORGET IT. The BUsa would flip right the F--- over if you pin the throttle in third. The 750 looks better too.
