your question here, or in a "How to" page, please ask in the
forum.
Q. My bike has
been standing for a while and now it smokes out of the exhaust
like crazy. There is also some oil on the floor under the turbo.
Does the turbo need to be rebuilt?
A. Probably not.
When stored, especially on the centre stand which tips the bike
"nose down", oil from the engine can seep into the turbocharger.
Next time you start the bike up, this oil then gets into the
intake and the engine, causing smoke. The remedy is to drain the
oil from the plenum (there is a drain bolt underneath for this
very purpose) and drop the engine oil level to 6mm above the "low"
mark on the sight glass. Then take the bike for a long hard ride
to burn off the excess oil in the pipe work and exhaust system. To
prevent the problem, keep the oil level as above and park the bike
on the side stand, or put a block of wood under the front wheel
when using the centre stand to keep the bike level.
Q. My turbo has a
pipe and/or aftermarket filter, and in the higher gears under full
acceleration it "cuts out" for a second or so, then the power
comes back on. What's wrong with it?
A. Nothing is wrong.
The pipe and filter allow the turbo and engine to breathe more
freely and require more fuel. The stock ECU isn't programmed for
this, so cuts the injection for a moment until settings are back
to normal. You can prevent this happening by enabling "race mode".

Q. Where can I
get a manual and parts diagrams for this bike?
A. There are two
manuals, the base manual for the GPz750 which covers the basic
bike, and the turbo supplement, which covers everything specific
to the turbo version. You can hunt down copies on ebay or download
them here:
Base Manual (44mb pdf)
Supplement (26mb pdf)
We also have a full
set of parts diagrams:
Parts diagrams (1mb
pdf)
and technical notes:
ZX750 technical notes (17mb pdf)
DFI technical notes(12mb pdf)
Q. Do you have
any larger versions of the wiring diagram?
A. Here they are:

Main loom
US/Canada
Main loom Rest of World
DFI loom (all models)
Q. The DFI
warning light on the tank console is flashing. What should I do?
A. The DFI warning
light is to draw your attention to the ECU in the tailpiece, which
has an LED that flashes a code, like Morse code, if there is a
problem with a sensor, or the ECU itself. The table below shows
what action is required.

Q. I can't seem to get any
gear other than 1st or neutral, is there something wrong with the
gearbox? A. No, all
Kawasakis have a "positive neutral finder" to help you select
neutral from first gear when stationary. Unless the bike is
moving, you won't be able to select the other gears. When you are
moving all five gears will be available.
Q. I can get "high octane" fuel
locally, will it make my bike faster?
A. If the bike is running stock
boost it won't make it any faster, and could possibly make it
slower. High octane fuels generally contain less heat energy than
regular unleaded. With increased boost high octane fuel will help
resist detonation, which is uncontrolled burning of the fuel.
Running increased boost without detonation is the key to making
more power. Q. How much
boost can I run on super unleaded fuel?
A. This will vary and depends greatly on how
accurately the engine is fuelled, how healthy the engine is and
other factors such as local fuel quality. Owners should use a wideband lambda sensor, or a
dyno equipped with one, to monitor progress carefully.
Q. I can't get the stock BR9EV
spark plug any more, what plug should I use?
A. The BR9EV has been
superseded by BR9EIX, in iridium plug. Many owners report that
ordinary BR9ES work just as well (especially with Dyna grey coils)
and are much cheaper, but this varies from bike to bike. Some
owners report excellent results with the equivalent Denso plug.
Q. What are the paint codes and
where can I buy replacement graphics?
A. Ford UA darker formula black and
Ford Colorado Red or PPG
DBC 95473 Nero Aldebaran (ebony) and DBC 74795 Firecracker Red
(red).
The most accurate graphics seem to be from
www.afegraphics.com
Q. The stock mirrors are
hopeless, I've seen alternatives used in the Gallery, what bike
are they from?
A. Kawasaki ZR7S or ZZR1200.
